How It Works

The Smart Restaurant Menu Ordering System operates using a dual-microcontroller setup powered by two Arduino Uno boards communicating wirelessly. At the customer table, the first Arduino Uno acts as the input terminal. It is equipped with a 2.4-inch TFT LCD Touch shield that displays the digital menu options. When a user interacts with the touch screen to select their food items, the Arduino processes these touch inputs and packages the order data. This data is then sent out over the air using a 433MHz RF Transmitter module. On the kitchen side, a 433MHz RF Receiver module captures the transmitted radio signals and passes them to the second Arduino Uno. This receiving Arduino decodes the order information and updates a secondary display, a 16*2 LCD Module connected via an I2C module, which presents the kitchen staff with the incoming order details. Simultaneously, a buzzer sounds to alert the kitchen personnel that a new order has arrived, ensuring prompt preparation and reducing miscommunication between customers and staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this project use two Arduino Uno boards instead of just one?
One Arduino is needed at the customer table to handle the touch screen interface and transmit the data, while a separate Arduino is required in the kitchen to receive the wireless signal and update the kitchen display simultaneously.
What libraries are required to make the touch screen and wireless communication work?
You will need the SPFD5408 library to drive the 2.4-inch TFT LCD touch shield, the RadioHead Library (RH_ASK.h) for the 433MHz RF modules, and the LiquidCrystal_I2C library for the kitchen's 16*2 LCD display.
Can the 433MHz RF modules transmit orders through thick walls?
433MHz RF modules work well over short to medium distances in open spaces, but heavy walls or interference can weaken the signal. It is best tested within line-of-sight or short distances typical of a restaurant floor.
